Additional Information
BEST SEASON/ TIME

The best time to embark on the Kailash Manasarovar Overland Tour is generally during the pre-monsoon and post-monsoon seasons, which span from May to June and September to October. During these periods, the weather is relatively stable, offering clear skies and comfortable temperatures for the challenging trek around Mount Kailash. Spring (May to June) provides a vibrant landscape with blooming flowers, while autumn (September to October) offers crisp air and breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks. The monsoon season, from July to August, is characterized by heavy rainfall and may result in challenging trekking conditions and reduced visibility. Winter, from November to April, experiences extremely cold temperatures, and the high-altitude trek becomes particularly arduous. Therefore, to ensure a safe and enjoyable pilgrimage with optimal weather conditions, planning the visit during the spring or autumn months is recommended.

WEATHER

Spring is characterized by relatively stable weather conditions with clear skies and excellent visibility. The chances of precipitation are lower compared to other seasons, reducing the risk of rain or snow during the trek. Fall is portrayed by dry and stable atmospheric conditions. The skies are by and large clear, giving astounding perceivability and all-encompassing perspectives on the mountains.

PERMIT
  1. Tibet Travel Permit: All foreign travelers must obtain a Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) before entering Tibet. This permit is issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau and is a prerequisite for traveling in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), where Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar are located.
  2. Aliens’ Travel Permit: Foreigners must obtain an Aliens’ Travel Permit (ATP) to travel to specific restricted areas, including the regions surrounding Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. The ATP is usually obtained after arriving in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet.
  3. Military Permit: Some parts of the journey, especially those near the border with India and Nepal, may require a Military Permit. This permit is usually arranged by the tour operator or travel agency handling the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra.
AVAILABLE FOOD/MEALS

In the Kailash Mansarovar area, especially during the trek and pilgrimage, the availability of food is largely dependent on the facilities provided by the tour operators or guesthouses along the route. Meals are typically simple, with a focus on providing sustenance for the physically demanding journey. The menu often includes a combination of Tibetan, Indian, and Nepali cuisine. Common items may include rice, lentils, vegetables, chapatis (flatbreads), and variations of local soups. Due to the remote and high-altitude nature of the region, fresh produce and a diverse range of culinary options may be limited. Participants are advised to carry some high-energy snacks and supplements for personal preference. Additionally, it’s essential to stay hydrated, and warm beverages such as tea are often readily available. Travelers should be prepared for basic meals, adapt to local culinary offerings, and appreciate the unique dining experiences that come with the spiritual journey in the sacred landscapes of Kailash Mansarovar.
