Overview

Situated on a 1302-meter hill in the Gorkha district, the Manakamana Temple is a holy site worshiping the Hindu goddess Bhagwati, an incarnation of Parvati. Two words are combined to form the name “Manakamana”. “Mana” means heart and “kamana” means wish. It’s believed that expressing your honest wishes here can help them come true.

The Manakamana Temple is located 12 km south of Gorkha town and is roughly 140 kilometers from Kathmandu. It is the route that runs between Pokhara and Kathmandu. Take a cable car trip from the station on the Trisuli River side to the temple which approximately takes about 10 minutes. The distance from the bottom to the hill is 2.8 km. It operates from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and stops between 12 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. for a lunch break.
